Algoma Boreal II
Mixed Media, 16 x 20 inches
Triptych (panel 2 of 3)
The inspiration for the Algoma Boreal series was dawn light in an Algoma region (Ontario) forest as clouds were clearing after a heavy rainfall. There is often a slight greenish tinge to the light if it is warm after a heavy rain. I wanted to convey the dampness of forest air and the feeling of looking at the sky through mist and trees as a storm is passing.

“Never change the course of a line until you have to. Never change the plane of a form until you have to. Never change the tone of a colour or form until you have to. If you follow these injunctions intelligently you will practice that great economy which is necessary to expression in your medium. Every change must count, and count strong.” – Robert Henri (1865-1929)
