ALGOMA BOREAL II
Mixed Media, 16 x 20 inches
Triptych (panel 1 of 3)
The inspiration for the Algoma Boreal series was dawn light in an Algoma region (Ontario) forest as clouds were clearing after a heavy rainfall. There is often a slight greenish tinge to the light if it is warm after a heavy rain. I wanted to convey the dampness of forest air and the feeling of looking at the sky through mist and trees as a storm is passing.

“But this marvelous world which we bring forth by means of our sympathy and penetrate through our intuition, will we ever come to know it? Perhaps we will be able to lift the vague indications of our intuition out of their limited sphere into the precise and clear plane of intelligence. But such triumphs are bounded by our capacities and we cannot rise above ourselves—that is the drama.” – Jacques Villon (1875-1963)
